Sylvie came to the U.S. in Nov 2022 from Rwanda after winning the green card lottery. She completed 2 years of university in her home country in marketing. Her first job in the U.S. was in Maryland in retail, and it helped her learn to be more extroverted and helped her practice her English. She moved to South Carolina and started working at BMW. She likes to challenge herself and wants to move up within the company. She enrolled at GLA because she’s interested in supply chain management at Greenville Tech and needed her GED to take classes there.
Her work schedule was the biggest challenge because she was working night shift and coming to class in the morning. She barely had any time to sleep, and she picked up a second job. Her advice to new students is: “Just do it and don’t wait. It wasn’t as hard as I expected.”
She wants to thank everyone for supporting her including Liz, Vera, her math instructor Nicky Dillon and all her instructors. She plans to apply for the BMW scholarship at Greenville Tech and complete the 2-year program while working for BMW part-time. Her work ethic and determination set a great example for other students.
