Quinton has always been a hard worker. He balanced school and a job in high school and graduated with an occupational diploma, eventually becoming a licensed hairstylist. But when he tried to apply to Greenville Tech to study nursing, he hit a roadblock: his diploma didn’t qualify. That was when he turned to the Greenville Literacy Association.
Quiet and reserved, Quinton wasn’t sure how he’d do in a classroom. Math was tough — especially algebra and geometry — but he refused to let that stop him. He stayed focused on his goal and, knowing his learning style, got creative. He supplemented his class curriculum by watching YouTube videos on the GED subjects to learn visually.
Quinton’s perseverance paid off. Now, with his GED in hand, he plans to return to school in the fall and pursue certification in a trade that suits his many interests and talents.
Quinton, your quiet strength and determination are powerful. You faced the challenge head-on and showed us all how capable you truly are. We can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
