Narcisa came to the United States 13 years ago from Bosnia and Herzegovina. At that time, she did not speak English. She graduated from high school in her country but found that a GED would make her entrance into college in the US much easier, so she decided to pursue it.
An online search led her to GLA where she enjoyed the atmosphere of acceptance and the staff and tutors’ commitment to her success.
English was without a doubt the biggest challenge to passing her GED, but her strong motivation with the support of her husband and family, helped to smooth her path.
Narcisa has always wanted to teach and after she passed the GED, she repaid GLA by returning as a Reading Language Arts volunteer tutor.
Today she is enrolled in Greenville Technical College and has just completed the first semester of her associate’s degree. Her goal is to become an elementary school teacher.
