Real Student Stories

GLA has made a real impact on the lives of real students in our local communities.

Meet Alisha Cox

Alisha dropped out of High School in the 9th grade, but it was always her goal to get her GED. The responsibility of studying while working and raising a child proved difficult. But Alisha attended a variety of adult education classes and eventually reached the point of passing every test except Math, her most challenging subject.

Searching for the best solution to her problem, she came to the GLA office in Simpsonville, where she was matched with Barb, a 1-on-1 tutor who worked tirelessly to help her pass the Math exam in 2023. She would like to thank her tutor, Barb, for all her help and encouragement.

Since getting her GED, Alisha feels a great sense of accomplishment and a boost in confidence. Having a GED has also helped her secure a job in nursing home administration.

Alisha acknowledges that getting your GED may not be easy, but if you stick with it and do the work, you will be successful!
