Anna’s reason for earning her GED is rooted in her plans for the future. She hopes to homeschool her own children one day and wants to be able to proudly tell them that she earned her diploma.
Having been homeschooled herself, Anna valued the personalized approach to learning. She enjoyed being able to spend more time exploring subjects in depth rather than simply preparing for a test. When she began working toward her GED, however, revisiting material she had learned six years earlier sometimes felt like taking a step backward.
Math was the subject that made her the most nervous—but with determination and encouragement from the staff at Greenville Literacy Association, Anna conquered it and earned her GED.
Today, Anna loves working at a local bakery, where she bakes cakes and pastries. At home, she has another goal: perfecting her artisan bread. Maybe one day, those loaves will become the beginning of a business of her own.
Anna is grateful to the GLA staff who encouraged her, challenged her, and kept pushing her forward. With her GED behind her, she’s ready to keep building the future she envisions for herself and her future family.
