Greer Learning Center

The Greer Learning Center opened as the first satellite learning center in 1996 at the J. Verne Smith Human Resource Center. The learning center moved into newly renovated space on the third floor of the J. Harley Bonds Resource Center in May 2003.

Greer Summer Hours Update

The Greer Learning Center will not be offering Thursday evening  classes during the summer, beginning June 6th.  We will still offer classes Monday and Tuesday nights.

Our summer hours will be as follows:

Monday and Tuesday: 8:30am – 8:00pm

Wednesday: 8:30am – 12:30pm

Greer Center Update – Fall 2012

The center implemented a monthly registration period for Adult Basic Education students. The new schedule resulted in an increase in class attendance during the summer months. The center has a new partnership with the Non-Profit Management Program at USC Upstate. The intern with this program is teaching WorkKeys classes, started a high level Pre-GED reading class and is a frequent English as a Second Language substitute.

The Greer Citizen featured the Greer Learning Center in September for Literacy Month. The article highlighted the center’s programs, the new GED changes in 2014, and staff spoke of the need for volunteers.  The staff also continues to nurture the partnership with the Greater Greer Non-Profit Roundtable group. … (read more…)

Greer Center Update – Winter 2012

The students, tutors and staff at the Greer Learning Center are enjoying new whiteboards in all the classrooms.  These whiteboards were purchased with funding from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.  New staff desks were made possible by a grant from the Sargent Foundation.  Staff members recently attended the Greater Greer Non-Profit Roundtable meeting and provided student recruitment materials to SHARE Head Start. … (read more…)

Greer Student Success Story – Charlie, Natalie and Denise
