Greenville Literacy’s 2012 Annual Awards Ceremony was held Monday, October 8, 2012, at 6:30 pm, in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church – Greenville. Here are the highlights of this year’s ceremony:
Gordon Garrett was named Volunteer of the Year
Janis Crowe, Erna Mahony, and Dick Travaglini were inducted into the Tutor Hall of Fame (1,000+ hours)
Sam Patrick Marketing and Communications and a coalition of other local agencies in charge of this year’s Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale marketing were recognized with
the Community Service Award45 students received their GED *new record*
620 students received awards
4 students recieved their U.S. Citizenship
79 students recieved WorkKeys certificates
177 tutors were recognized for volunteering 100+ hours

The Greenville Literacy Association hosts an Annual Awards meeting every fall to recognize the successes of students, tutors, volunteers, and friends of literacy. Highlights of the evening include the naming Volunteer of the Year and the induction of tutors into the Tutor Hall of Fame. In addition, Community Service awards are presented and students and tutors relate some of their experiences promoting literacy through the Greenville Literacy Association.
