You can become a literacy tutor for adult basic students. ABE students are native English speakers who read below the 8th grade level. Training workshops are regularly scheduled throughout the year to provide tutors with instruction on various teaching techniques. Opportunities for tutoring include either one-on-one or small group. Topics include reading, spelling, math, writing, basic computer skills, and pre-GED preparation (including science and social studies).
Please complete the form below and a Program Manager from the Learning Center nearest you will contact you and make an appointment for you to come to the center and learn more about the program. You will also have an opportunity to observe a small group, meet some of the students, and see if tutoring is right for you. Then you may sign up for the training most convenient for you.
Cost for new tutor training is a $20 tax-deductible donation, and it covers all materials. Greenville Literacy training is conducted by a group of volunteer trainers who are also experienced tutors.
